Briana Munoz
My dad, Tony Munoz, has been riding horses since he was a young boy. No one would have ever imagined that our lives would have changed dramatically from this hobbie and carreer of his. My dad, on April 19, 2009, was warming up his horse, which all of a sudden had gotten spooked and, and was bucked off and thrown to the floor. As he started to get up from the floor the horse kicked him on the head and left my father on the floor, unconcsious. He was rushed to the hospital and spent about 11 hours in surgery. His skull was fractured, blood clots had formed in his head, and there was major swelling and bleeding. He spent a week in a coma. The first time i went into so him, i was terribly frightened. He looked so swollen and not anything like himself. Once he got out of the hospital, he was sent to a skilled nursing home. Then he came home and started daily rehabilitation. He started recovering so quickly but once it came time for his next surgery we noticed him regressing. Then we found out he had a bad infection in his head. Two weeks later he was back to the hospital because blood clots in his lungs were discovered. And shortly after that he again returned to the hospital and my parents spent thanksgiving learning that my dad was suffering from small seizures. That at least explained why he seemed to be falling asleep at the dinner table and zoning out on us when we'd talk to him and getting so overly exhausted that he couldnt even walk. Now we wait, til he's off of his blood thinning medication so he can go into another surgery and start recovering and regaining his strength once again. It's been the hardest thing my family has been through and it's miserable seeing my dad as he is but with the power of prayer and the rare laughs and smiles we see and hear from him, we're slowly getting through this.
